The Nikon D780 has a maximum video recording time of 30 minutes, but only for some formats. That limit is also dependent upon multiple factors like camera settings, media storage size, camera power, and internal camera temperature. See details and notes below for more information.

Format Limit

1If the recording time reaches 29 minutes, 59 seconds or the file size reaches 4GB (whichever occurs first), recording will stop automatically.

2If the recording time reaches 2 minutes, 59 seconds or the file size reaches 4GB (whichever occurs first), recording will stop automatically.

Normal Frame Rates (60 fps or less) 30 minutes1
High Frame Rates (120 or 100 fps) 3 minutes2

Notes

  • Using SD/SDHC cards: Each movie will be recorded across up to 8 files of up to 4GB each. The number of files and the length of each file vary with the options selected for frame size, frame rate, and movie quality.
  • Using SDXC cards: Movies recorded to memory cards formatted in the camera will be recorded as a single file regardless of size if the card has a capacity over 32GB
  • An increase of the camera’s internal temperature may cause recording to stop before the maximum recording time is reached.
