Canon EOS R5 C Video Recording Limits

Canon EOS R5 C

The Canon EOS R5 C has no video recording limit, but only for some formats. That limit is also dependent upon multiple factors like camera settings, media storage size, camera power, and internal camera temperature. See details and notes below for more information.

Maximum continuous video recording times for the Canon EOS R5 C
Format Limit

1Unlimited recording is only possible with bit rates of approximately 720 Mbps or less, with Relay Recording enabled, and with compatible memory cards that have available space in both memory card slots. This limitation is due to memory card slot B only supporting SD cards that have lower maximum write speeds than many CFexpress cards.

CAUTION: We are aware of this article from DigitalCameraWorld.com that states the EOS R5 C does have recording limitations. While partially true, the article is missing important clarifying details. The article refers to the charts in the specifications and manual that give recording limits for recording formats and memory card sizes. However, the EOS R5 C offers relay recording with 2 memory card slots that will allow for uninterrupted continuous recording for some of those formats. See chart above for more details.

Notes

  • Recording in RAW format on SD cards is only possible when using SDXC cards.
  • Relay Recording and Double Slot Recording cannot be used when recording to an SD card with a bit rate higher than approximately 720 Mbps.
  • Using SD/SDHC cards: The card will be formatted in FAT32. If the file size exceeds 4GB, recording will continue and a new file will be created automatically.
  • Using SDXC cards: The card will be formatted in exFAT. Even if the file size exceeds 4GB during recording, the movie will be saved as a single file.
